This
is one of the most popular paintings I have ever done, and remains one of my personal favorites. "Breathe" was drawn from
a benevolent Angel of Death theme, with deep symbolism layered over that. The blue butterflies represent the soul (certain
ancient Meso American cultures held the belief that some people, especially warriors or women who died in childbirth, became
butterflies after death). The title of the painting arises from the "breath of life", which is released into the universe
at the time of death.
