Oil, Oil Pastel and Metallic Ink on Board
16" x 20"
2007
I painted this semi-abstract piece for my wedding reception invitation. The concept
came from a variety of sources. The thick "ribbon stitching" represents two hearts, two souls, bound together as one through
the sacred ritual of marriage. The wings represent the freedom of spirit that genuine, supportive love brings. The winged
heart reminded me a little of the iconic Mexican tin milagros, or "miracles" (hence the title of the piece), and irridescent
gold Celtic knots, visible in some types of light and invisible in others, represent the ancestral heritage my husband and
I share and take pride in. Below is an image of the front of the postcard invitation the piece was used for, also featuring
a section of a poem by noted British poet and artist William Blake.
